Obituary of WARRINER – Gordon Edward

April 17, 1921 – January 30, 2010 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gordon Edward Warriner, he quietly passed away in his sleep with his family nearby on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at the Southwood Hospice in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 88 years. Survived by his loving wife Verna with whom he cherished their sixty-seven years of marriage, Ed and Verna were blessed with three sons Gordon (Beverly), Gregory and Ross (Lynn), eight Grandchildren Kedar (Karen), Genevieve, Reid (Stamatina), Kevin (Jennifer), Jennifer (Glen), Steffanie (Aaron), Andrea (Paul) and Sarah Lynn, five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his brother Trent; sisters Florence, Grace and Kathleen; step-sister Mary and step-brothers Jack and Dave. Ed was born in Toronto on April 17, 1921. Following his education he joined the Toronto Dominion Bank in 1939. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and became a Flying Officer/ Instructor. He served at a number of stations across Canada before being posted overseas to a Mosquito Squadron. On returning to Canada in 1945, he resumed his banking career with the Toronto Dominion Bank. In 1962 Ed accepted a move with the bank to Winnipeg and then on to Calgary where he retired in 1981. He subsequently started a second career with Citibank Canada as Vice President of their Energy Resources Division. In his early years, Ed was actively involved in community work. He played a key role in the financing and construction of St. Mathews Anglican Church in Etobicoke, Toronto. He was Past President of the Kingsway Kiwanis Club and District Governor elect. Ed was an ardent golfer, curler and fisherman. He especially enjoyed camping and boating across Canada with Verna and their three sons. Ed was a member of the Calgary Golf & Country Club and the Glencoe Club. He had a keen sense of humour and a very positive outlook on life. The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to Doctors, Dr. Fred Moriarty, Dr. Donald Meldrum and Dr. Annie Yau, the doctors, nurses and staff at Rockyview Hospital, nurse Liz Ennis and staff of the Calgary Health Region Homecare and the staff and caregivers at the Southwood Hospice.
