Obituary of AUDETTE – Betty May

July 3, 1930 – January 23, 2010 Betty May Audette (nee Drew) of Calgary, AB passed away peacefully at home surrounded by love at the age of 79 years. Born and raised in Melfort, SK, she moved to Calgary with her children in the 50’s. Betty worked for many years for the Royal Canadian Legion #1 and #264 branches. Her most rewarding work was as a housemother at a group home for mentally and physically disabled youth. Betty was very proud of her son Larry and was able to cheer him on has he participated and received his medals in the 1986 Canadian Summer Special Olympics in Ottawa. She travelled with family to Sydney, Australia in 2004 to see her granddaughter Lindsay and partner Rachel. Betty lived in Spruce Lodge the past four years where she stayed active by volunteering with Donna at the Tuck Shop, visiting the CNIB Rose Garden and making new friends. She leaves to mourn her loss her children, Ken, Linda, Bill, and Mary (Ron Cook); grandchildren, Lindsay, Shaun and Barbie; her great-grandson Cooper; sisters, Emily Graves and Violet Young; brother Bill (Debbie) Drew; sister-in-law Helen Drew; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sons, Timothy, Donald and Larry; and her brother Jack. Betty was a very compassionate person who cared deeply for her family and friends. She was best known for her friendly good nature, perseverance and love of children. A private memorial dinner is being held Sunday, January 31, 2010 in her honour.
