Obituary of PETERS – Leonard John

February 6, 1945 – December 24, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leonard (Len) John Peters, 64, on the morning of Thursday, December 24, 2009 at his home in his favorite chair. Len was born in Niverville, Manitoba as one of four children to John and Agnes Peters. A lifelong entrepreneur, Len started his first business as a custom combiner at the young age of 11 and quickly graduated to “running” eggs across the Manitoba/Saskatchewan border. Len graduated from University of Manitoba in 1967 with a Bachelors of Economics. It was at U of M that Len met the “smartest women he ever knew”, Heather Everall, whom he married in England during a post-graduation backpacking trip in 1968. Len and Heather moved to Calgary in 1969 where Len started a bodyshop automotive supplies warehousing business, L.J. Peters Warehouses Ltd., which he ran happily with his faithful team, including Debra McArthur and Dawson May, until the day he passed. We will all miss Len’s poignant views on social and political matters, his caustic wit, and his obvious commitment to creating a good life for his two children. Len and Heather had two daughters, Jennifer (Jacint Dragu) Peters and Leigh (Shawn Cote) Peters. Len is predeceased by his brother ∙, and his parents. Besides his loving wife Heather, Len is survived by his two sisters Linda (Bob) Wiens and Norma Peters; his daughters, Jennifer and Leigh; and his two grandchildren Brad and Sean as well as many nieces, nephews and other family members, colleagues and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations can be made to ARF (Animal Rescue Foundation, 944 – 38 Street S.W., Calgary, AB T3C 3W2) In living memory of Len Peters, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W.
