Obituary of MacDONALD – Charles Arthur

April 6, 1919– December 23, 2009 Charles MacDonald, beloved husband of Sheila MacDonald, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at the age of 90 years. Charlie was born in Calgary as one of nine children of Alice and Robert MacDonald. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in 1941, serving as Staff-Sergeant with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Charlie lived most of his life in the Cochrane area, working in construction, building several homes and office buildings, the Beaupre Hall, Catholic Churches at Exshaw and St. Mary’s in Cochrane, Spray Lakes Sawmill office, Cochrane town hall and Cochrane fire hall. Besides his loving wife Sheila, Charlie is survived by his sisters, Marjorie (Bob), Doreen, Hazel, and Anne (Woody); many nieces and nephews; stepdaughters, Beverly (Garry) and Carol (Bill); grandchildren, Jyllian (Bill), Cameron, Julia, and Henry; and great-grandchildren, Laryn, Patrick and Peter. He was predeceased by his first wife Edith Hansen; brothers Alan and Bob, and sisters, Evelyn and Margaret. Charlie and his family greatly appreciate the loving support provided by loyal friends, Eric and Mary Hansen, caregivers Ellie Austen and Dawn Koenig, as well as many dedicated and compassionate staff members at Southwood Care Centre and Bethany Cochrane. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (10 River Heights Drive Cochrane, AB T4C 1B3) on Monday, December 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. You may forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
