Obituary of THOBANI – Zubeida Madatally

Zubeida passed away peacefully on Friday, December 18, 2009 at Care West Sarcee at the age of 87 years. Born in Mumbai, India, the only granddaughter of Sir Tharia Topan, Zubeida grew up in Zanzibar and spent her working life in Nairobi, Kenya together with Madat, her loving husband of fifty-nine years who predeceased her. She was very active in the local community through her devoted work in various charitable organisations. Zubeida moved to Canada in 1984. She will be deeply missed by her two daughters, Mumtaz Carter and Habiba Grant; two sons, Masood Thobani and Mushtaq Thobani; six grandchildren, Jan and Steve Carter, Farhan and Foziya Thobani, Fahim and Imran Thobani; two great-grandchildren; and nephews, nieces and numerous wonderful friends in various parts of the world. Funeral Services will be held at the Ismaili Jamat Khana & Centre (4623 – 11th Street N.E.) today, December 21, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Rocky View Garden of Peace.
