Obituary of VINER – David

March 17, 1918 – December 17, 2009 With great sadness, we announce that David Viner passed away. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at the age of 91 years. Dave was the loving husband of Evelyn (Stochinsky) for 60 years, devoted father and father-in-law of Shirley Katz, Linda and Eric Lerner, Karen and Jamie Phillips, Arlene and David Holmes, Earl and Yona Viner, and cherished Zaida (grandfather) of Marni, Andrea, Marc, Josh, Shawn, Lawrie, Michelle, Michael, Coby and Courtney. Dave is also survived by his sisters-in-law Sepa Kaplan and Frances Viner, brother-in-law Abe Stone and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be sadly missed by his two wonderful caregivers Annaliza Managat and Elizabeth Madera. Dave was predeceased by his parents Albert and Bertha Viner, father-in-law and mother-in-law Max and Esther Stochinsky, son-in-law Orville Katz, brother and sister-in-law Allan and Belle Viner, brother Harvey Viner, brothers-in-law David Kaplan and Eddie Stochinsky, nieces and nephews Robin and Alan Goldstein, Gary Viner, and Susan McCallum. Dave was born in Saskatoon on March 17, 1918 and moved to Calgary in 1947. He was a kind and giving gentleman, a wise and respected businessman, a valued friend and business advisor to many and above all devoted to his family. The family wishes to thank all of Dave’s health care providers, especially Dr. James Silvius, Dr. Laurie Parsons, Dr. Roy Cook, Dr. Edith Kooiman, and Gus Schroeder for their kind and compassionate care. Funeral Services will be held at the Beth Tzedec Synagogue (1325 Glenmore Trail S.W.), today, Friday, December 18, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. Interment to follow at the Jewish Cemetery (30th Avenue & Erlton Street S.W.).
