Obituary of ROTHERY – Ian M.P.

September 3, 1960 – December 13, 2009 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, coach, and friend, Ian, who left us too soon on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at the age of 49 years. He leaves behind an extended family that already miss him beyond words. His legacy of love and kindness includes his wife of twenty-seven years, Josephine; his four children, Kimberly, Robin, Michelle, and Christian; and his grandson, Paul Jr. Also left to miss him are his brothers and sisters, Donna of Vancouver, BC, Barbara of Sylvan Lake, AB, Grahame, Adrian, both of Calgary, Terry of Wetaskiwin, AB, and Jennifer of Calgary. He will also be missed by his mother-in-law Marian of Camrose, AB; and his numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. Ian joins his parents Eleanor and Albert; his oldest sister Doris; and his father-in-law Joseph. He will also be missed and mourned by many cousins, uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews, and friends within his community too numerous to count. Ian spent the most recent years of his life working for CalTrax, where he only increased the circle of friends and colleagues who mourn his passing today. Beyond his family, Ian’s greatest passion was for hockey and passing along his knowledge and wisdom of the sport through coaching the next generation of athletes. It was a bright shining star in his life along with those he loved and cared about, and his dedication to all of the kids in his life, both on and off the ice, never wavered or dimmed. Ian’s generosity, selfless spirit and warmth drew many to him, and will be one of just many lasting memories those who loved him will carry forward. His big heart won over all that had the pleasure of knowing him, and will always be remembered as one of his many attributes, however his greatest gift to those who knew him, was that he was always there for you. A Celebration of Ian’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
