SELOCK (nee Metcalfe) – Barbara Frances
August 7, 1929 – November 20, 2009
Mrs. Barbara Frances Selock (nee Metcalfe) passed away peacefully at the Oilfields Hospital in Black Diamond after a six year battle with breast cancer.
Barbara was born in Calgary but raised in Vancouver and on Salt Spring Island, she returned to Calgary to attend Mount Royal College. Barbara and her husband Jack realized their dream of life in the country with their 1959 purchase of land in the foothills south of Calgary.
A lifelong member of the Canadian Kennel Club, Barbara raised Samoyeds and a variety of other breeds for more than 50 years. She successfully raised a family along with dogs, cats, horses, goats, sheep, rabbits, chickens, ducks, and more under the banner Al-A’Raf Farm Kennels. Her “Kitty Kondos” were the vacation home to many cats for over 25 years.
Barbara is survived by Lance (Kathleen), Donna (Don) and her grandsons; Devon, Dustin, and Derek. She was predeceased by her parents Sidney Wales & Frances Adele Metcalfe in 1968; her husband John (Jack) Alexander in 1978 and her daughter Sharon Anne in 1999.
Barbara generously supported a wide variety of local and international charities but she requested that in lieu of flowers, donations should be made in her memory directly to the World Wildlife Fund Canada, Suite 410, PO Box 26288 Brm B, Toronto, ON M7Y 4R1 Telephone: 1 (800) 267 – 2632, .
A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Monday, November 30 at 2:00 pm.
