Obituary of KOHSE – Edward Herbert

March 25, 1929 – September 14, 2009 Ed Kohse passed away at the Foothills Hospital on September 14, 2009 at the age of 80. Ed will be missed as a loving husband of 57 years to Anita, a kind and patient father to five children, Victoria (Steven Potter), Gordon (Jane Dunphy), Vivianne (Douglas Macrae), Alexandra (Alan Jochelson) and Bruce (Lori Hahnel), and a devoted grandfather to ten grandchildren: Elena, Kieran, Alex, Emma, Lane, Billie, Davita, Thea, Nick and Dan. The son of Edward and Emma Kohse, he was predeceased by one brother, Fred, and is survived by another brother, Donald of Qualicum Beach, BC. Ed was born in Victoria, BC, and developed a love for the outdoors growing up in northern BC. After working with his father as a horse packer for the Geological Survey of Canada, Ed obtained a degree in Geology from the University of British Columbia in 1952. He enjoyed a long career in the Exploration department of Mobil Oil Canada, beginning with field offices at several locations in Alberta and BC, before moving to Calgary and later becoming head of the department. Ed enjoyed camping, riding and skiing, and he loved to fish. From the Highwood River, to lakes in the Northwest Territories, and many trips back to Vancouver Island to fish for salmon, he spent many happy hours with a fishing rod in his hand. He also enjoyed visiting (and fishing) with children and grandchildren at East Coulee, Alberta, and Burridge Lake, Ontario. He always had time to devote to his family and the community. His warm and quiet nature won him many friends and the respect and admiration of all who met him. Ed will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered as a tremendous husband, father and friend. A Celebration of Ed’s life will be held at St. Laurence Anglican Church, (5940 Lakeview Dr. S.W.), on Friday, September 18, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. In living memory of Ed Kohse, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403) 243-8200.
