Obituary of Spence – David

June 20, 1936 – August 29, 2009 It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our cherished husband, father, and grandfather, Dave. Dave was born in Musselburgh, Scotland in 1936. He met his beloved future wife Dymphna, while at a dance during the Edinburgh festival. Soon after that they fell in love and held a long distance relationship overseas. Dave and Dymphna married in Scotland and later traveled by boat to Canada. Then settled in Calgary where they raised their two children. Dave had a successful career in sales and was a partner in a sign company for many years until he retired. Integrity was a virtue that Dave took to heart in all of his business and personal relationships. Dave loved life and treated every moment as a blessing. He took joy in all of life’s simple pleasures and had numerous friends from all walks of life. His strong spirit was something that everyone who met him was truly inspired by. He was a man with an infectious sense of humour, a kind and gentle heart, and above all made everyone feel welcomed. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 44 years, Dymphna, his son Rory, daughter Kirsty (Jocelyn), beloved granddaughter Maggie and the many friends and extended family he touched throughout his 73 years. He is predeceased by his daughter (Tara) and mother and father Margaret and Robert Spence. At Dave’s request, there will be no formal service.
