Obituary of PETERS – Roy P.

April 26, 1929 – August 14, 2009 After a long and hard fought battle with cancer, it is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Roy Peters at the Southwood Hospice (aka “The Hotel”) in Calgary, Alberta on August 14th, 2009 at the age of 80. He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Kathy and their daughters Deborah (Phil), Roxanne (Cam), Danna (Don), Colleen (Mike) and Ronda (Ron), grandchildren Jacqueline, Josh, Meredith, Brett, Connor, Cole and Mackenzie and his surviving sisters Minnie Cone, Ginger (Agnes) Hicks and Midge (Margaret) Carr. He is predeceased by his dear granddaughter Laine, many siblings and his parents Jacob and Elizabeth. Born in Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan, Roy moved to Edmonton, Alberta in 1946, where he started a long and successful career in sales with White Stag of Canada. In 1963, Roy moved his family to Calgary. In the 70’s Roy started the first Mr. Donut franchise in Calgary. Following this venture, he went into Real Estate working for Royal Trust. Roy treasured the years he was able to pursue his hobby of showing Arabian horses. For many years, Roy was actively involved in the Arabian Horse Association and the Calgary Stampede. He participated in many Stampede parades in full Arabian costume. Later, he parlayed this love of horses into co-ownership of several thoroughbred horses with his nephew, Rod Cone and was an avid horse racing fan. Roy’s zest for life and the pride he felt for his five daughters and their families will be fondly remembered by all those who knew him. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Messages of Condolence may be placed at www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
