Condolences
I am so sorry to hear that Mrs. Chaplin had passed away. I worked with her at St. Elizabeth and my daughter was in her class. She had such a kind spirit and was so wonderful with the kids.
She was always so calm and had patience to spare (ie. when eggs were dropped on the floor when we were making our giant cookies to demonstrate fractions!). I still have her recipe to this day “Mrs. Chaplin’s Giant Cookie” that was included in our St. John the Evangelist student cookbook. My prayers are with your family during this difficult time.
Dave & Matthew: Loretta was one of my best friends. We had so many good times while we lived in Pittsburgh with you Dave & Loretta. Matthew, your mom was so proud of you. I have never met you but feel I know you through your mom. Keep in touch and know Loretta is truly missed! My heart & prayers go out to you both. Cyndi
I was sorry to discover that Loretta had passed away. I worked with her at St. Elizabeth Seton. She was very thoughtful and always had reassuring and encouraging things to say to both students and colleagues. I feel for your loss; know that she shall be honoured not only with our prayers, but also by the students and friends she influenced and their contribution to the future of our world.
Dave, Matt and family,
It was with deep sorrow that we read about Lorreta’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
Larry, Barb, Amy and Cory Marasco.
Dave:
Our sincere condolences on Loretta’s passing. We remember the party that Loretta and you hosted when you were living in Massachusetts. It gave us an opportunity to meet Loretta who was very welcoming and warm. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult and sad time.

Dave,
My condolences to you and your family at this time of sorrow. I don’t believe I met Loretta until we all moved to Pittsburgh, but I remember the times we spent together fondly. Everyone’s life was enriched a little bit more after they met Loretta.
My thoughts are with you.
Our heartfelt sympathy to you all. Mrs. Chaplin was an amazing teacher and colleague. My son Alfonso was in her class, and she impacted his learning and growth immensely. Mrs. Chaplin’s love for her students did not go unnoticed. My son was very fond of her, and she will always have a special place in his heart. She will be forever remembered as a very special friend and mentor to us both. We feel privileged to have known such an incredibly talented, generous, and compassionate woman. We pray that God will give you all strength to endure the difficult days ahead. Know that now she is in a beautiful place with our Lord, and she has continued her journey to His kingdom. May God bless you all and give you His peace and love.
Sincerely, Laura and Alfonso DiGiacomo
To the Chaplin family,
I would like to express my sadness in hearing of Loretta’s death. Loretta and I worked together at St John Fine Arts for a few years. I know from that short experience, and many conversations, that she was a dedicated, caring teacher, colleague, mother and wife. When she shared stories about Matt, her voice and the twinkle in her eyes revealed the intense pride she had in him. I am glad that her grandson got the chance to experience his grandmother’s “big heart”.

Paul and I are so deeply sorry to hear of Loretta;s Passing and our prayers and hearts go out to Dave and their SOn and the rest of the family
Loretta I knew from Red Deer but we became great friends in Leominster, Massachusetts when Dave worked for Nova and we also relocated from Red Deer.
She helped me through rough times with back pain and loneliness when we came here first and never hesitated to bring me to ER or come and visit and stay with me after procedures. I will miss her terribly.
She had such a strong pride in her work as a teacher, a friend and a soulmate to Dave and her Son.
Kim and I would like to express our deepest sympathies in the time of your loss. Know that we are thinking of you and that we will say a prayer for God to give you the stength to carry on.
Please accept my sincere sympathies in the loss of your daughter/sister (in-law)/wife and mother.
The Salter family has will always hold a special meaning to me. Edna (Whittemore) was my grade 2teacher. It was always a big day when she invited her sister, Loretta, to our class for a sing-along. If i’m not mistaken, Loretta played guitar while Edna played accordian and, of course, we sang up every song they knew — or at least tried to! Loretta used to visit now and again and we were always thrilled to have her.
Later on, Edna’s husband, Ron (Mr. Whiitemore)taught me and later still, Mrs. Loretta Salter influenced our education as a career counsellor at LTCHS (I really should have paid a bit more attention to what she had to say but that’s an entirely different story!). Clearly, teaching runs in the blood of this family. I have no doubt, Loretta made a great one and was a favorite of many of her students.
May you find peace and comfort in the knowledge that Loretta inspired many children. I, for one, have wonderfully fond memories of a young girl singing, playing and entertaining her sister’s classroom.
Dear Loretta – We are so sorry about the loss of your daughter Loretta Mae. She was a few years behind us in school but Edna was a good friend to my cousin Marie Letourneau Hamilton so we got to know Loretta too – she was a very nice person. Sincere condolences and prayers from all of us. The Stephens and Letourneau families.
David, Matt and family,
We were very sorry to hear of your loss and our thoughts and prayers will be with during this difficult time. Loretta had a wonderful laugh and smile. I enjoyed her company and working with her. May she rest in peace.

Dear David, the Chaplin and Salter Families:
Loretta was an inspiration and beacon of light to anyone who was fortune enough to have crossed her path in life — she touched the minds and hearts of many! We are truly blessed to have known her and her amazing spirit will live within us.
With love and peace,
Bianca, Jacqueline, and Noel DeSouza
I am very saddened to hear about Loretta. I have never met anyone as suited to teaching as Loretta was. I know she enriched many young lives.
I send you my deepest sympathy on Loretta’s passing on. I knew Loretta as an outstanding teacher at Our Lady of Peace School. I admired and appreciated her talents, warmth and generosity of spirit. I will always treasure the time we shared together as colleagues and friends.
My prayers are with you.
I only worked with Loretta for a short time, but it was long enough to know what a truely wonderful person she was. My deepest sympathy to her family during this time.
Matt, Vanessa and Jude
We were so sorry to hear about your mothers passing, we know how much you assisted her through her battle.
Our thoughts are with you and your family.

Dear David & family — I am so sorry to see that Loretta has passed away. On behalf of our families, I send our condolences, and will be praying for each of you. Your cousin, Inez.
Dear Loretta’s family, I worked with Loretta and I truly admired her gentle ways, her big smile, her openness, her humility, her spunkiness, her determination, her strength, her organization skills, her love of children, her pride in her family and of course her incredible talents as a teacher.
May God Bless you in this sorrowful time.
