Obituary of MacLEOD – Ian Colin

November 28,1927- August 11,2009 Ian (Dusty) Colin MacLeod died peacefully on August 11, 2009 at the age of 81. He will be lovingly remembered by Anne (nee McEachern), his wife of 57 years, his five children, Sandy (Paul), Beth (Emmet), Ian (Jo-Anne), David (Donna) and Duncan (Cheryl) and thirteen grandchildren, Tom, Dan, Michael, Austin, Steven, Veronica, Kevin, Meagan, Casey, Jordan, Taylor, Connor and Elyse, and his sisters Joan and Denise MacLeod. Ian was born in Arichat, Nova Scotia on November 28, 1927 to Ian Colin MacLeod and Estelle (nee Boucher) MacLeod. He grew up in Glace Bay, N.S. where he attended St. Anne’s High School. He received his BSc. in Chemistry from St. Francis Xavier University in 1950 followed by his Bachelor of Engineering from Nova Scotia Tech in 1952. He was in the reserves while in university and throughout his career in Canada. He maintained his membership in the Sarnia Legion for 57 years. He met Anne at St. F.X. in 1949 and they were married in Sarnia, Ontario on September 23, 1952. Ian had joined Imperial Oil in Sarnia in the summer of 1952. Their five children were born in Sarnia. The family transferred with Esso overseas to Libya in 1964 and to Aruba in 1972. Following his retirement in 1982, he and Anne made Aruba their home. They enjoyed travelling extensively visiting Europe, the Mediterranean and Canada. One of their travel highlights was a trip to the Arctic Circle and London, England was a favourite destination. Ian collected stamps from the time he was a boy and he was a published amateur photographer and a talented woodworker. His sharp analytical mind and wit served him well in life and he enjoyed the company of many good friends from his time at St. F.X., the reserves, and Sarnia, Libya and Aruba. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church (8944 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Monday, August 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. a private Graveside Service in Queen’s Park Cemetery will follow.
