Obituary of Bill Morin
William (Bill) Morin, beloved husband of 59 years of Diane (nee Villeneuve), passed away peacefully in Calgary on April 28th at the age of 78. Bill was born in Carrying Place, Ontario and educated in Brockville and Ottawa. He served in the Navy from 1947 to 1949 and in 1950 he began work with the CNR as a yard brakeman and would finish his distinguished career 40 years later as Group Vice-President. Among his many achievements with CN were his negotiations of the CNR-Via operating agreements which contributed to the creation of Via Rail, as well as the very successful divestiture of the companies’ non-rail assets in the late 1980’s. Apart from his work life Bill was a caring son, husband, father and grandfather. He remained devoted to the welfare of his parents, Victor Morin and Agnes Humble, throughout their lives. He took great interest in the lives of his sons and his grandchildren and enjoyed travelling with friends and family to a great number of interesting destinations. Bill will be remembered for his honest and unassuming manner, his dedication and work ethic at the CNR and his generosity and support of friends and family. Bill is survived by his wife Diane; sons Brian (Heather Ogilvie) of Ste Adele, Quebec and Garry (Heather Smith) of Calgary, Alberta.; six grandchildren, Chris, Kyle, Carling, Drew, Bradley, and Benjamin; brother Melville of Ottawa, Ontario; two sisters, Venetta of Brockville, Ontario and Arlene (Wayne) Young of Smiths Falls, Ontario. He will also be deeply missed by dear aunt Mrs. J. Humble; and cousin’s Phil and Paddy Humble of Victoria, British Columbia; as well as many nieces and nephews, lifelong friends and colleagues. He was predeceased by his brothers Richard and Joseph of Brockville, Ontario, and sister Edna McFerran of Ottawa, Ontario. There will be an Internment of Bill’s urn at the Blue Church in Prescott, Ontario at a later date.
