Obituary of A. Pearl Forbes

It is with both sadness and gratitude for the long life of our beloved Mother and Grandmother, Pearl Forbes, that we announce her passing at the age of 98 years. Having shown great courage in facing the challenges of dementia, she is finally free to move on to her “next adventure”. Pearl is survived by her son Laurie Forbes; daughters, Beverly Forbes and Kathryn Edwards; grandson Robin Edwards; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Albert in 1988; and her sister, Jean Tuttle. Pearl grew up in the Crowsnest Pass area. She had a brief teaching career during the depression and later worked with the United Mine Workers in Calgary. In 1940 she married Albert Forbes. Her next years were spent as a busy mother and homemaker, also involved in Church and various volunteer activities. She was later employed with IKO Industries until her retirement. She then spent many happy hours with her young grandson, and was a devoted caretaker to our father in their last few years together. Although small in stature, Pearl was a strong, “feisty”, very independent person. She enjoyed excellent health and was able to live on her own until she was well into her 90’s. Family would like to express gratitude to dedicated front-line staff of Trafalgar Unit, Wentworth Court, for their kind care and attention, particularly during her last days. Pearl will be fondly remembered for her strength of character, common-sense wisdom, and the compassion and respect she displayed towards all people, and for all living things. She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother and grandma. Her unconditional love and support will be truly missed. Respecting Pearl’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
