Obituary of Albert E. Plomp

Dutch was born October 6, 1922 in Kipp, AB, and passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2009 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Dutch is survived by his loving wife of almost sixty years Elaine; daughters, Cheryl Rowlandson (Wayne) and Nancy Whatmore; grandchildren, Ben Rowlandson, Carrie Rowlandson, Clayton Whatmore (Courtney), Jamie Hardy (Lee), Joe Schweitzer (Chelsea) and Chance Plomp–Schweitzer; great-grandchildren, Alex Rowlandson, Randal and Gavin Hardy; a brother Chris Plomp and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Wendy in August 2007. His greatest joys were spending time with his family and lunches with old friends. His love of the outdoors included hunting, fishing and in his younger years skiing. Dutch and Elaine spent many years travelling. They especially enjoyed their time at the condo in Sidney, BC. He served with the Canadian Army in WWII with the third division, landing at Juno Beach in Normandy on D-Day plus two and then transferred to the second division to tour through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. After the war he finished his formal education at SAIT. Dutch started in the oil patch in 1953, then formed his own company, Topco Oilsite Sales Ltd in 1958, retiring in 2008. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 264 and the Calgary Petroleum Club.
