Obituary of Lisa Marie Starlight

Lisa was born in Calgary. She attended and graduated grade 12 from Lord Beaverbrook High School in Calgary. Lisa was always active with her community and accomplished much in her life. In 1992, Lisa was the Calgary Native Friendship Centre Princess. In 1994, she became the First Aboriginal Peer Youth Representative for the Western Region of Canada. In 1996, Lisa became the Calgary Stampede Indian Village Princess, a title which she wore proudly. She went on to further her education and in 2000, Lisa graduated from Centre of Indigenous Theatre. Two years later, she became a graduate from Canadian Broadcasting. Lisa was a gifted jingle dress dancer and traveled the world as a performer. She participated in making over two hundred and fifty tee-pees including the well known forty foot tee-pee that is displayed at the Indian Village during the Calgary Stampede. Lisa will always be fondly remembered for her ability to brighten anyone’s day with her humour and beautiful smile. Lisa was pre-deceased by grandfathers Chief Leo Youngman & Chief James Starlight; great grandmother Bessie Meguinis, grandmother Sarah Meguinis, cousins Nick Breaker, Sounder Runner, Jonathon Laughter, Bradley Breaker, Victor Starlight Jr., Darren Scalplock; uncle Patrick Nadeau; Lena Youngman, Andy Youngman; Jim Starlight Jr., Harvey Youngman, and Eleanor Starlight. Wake Services will be held at the residence of Bruce and Deanna Starlight on Monday, March 9, 2009 at 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex, Tsuu T’ina Nation on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Tsuu T’ina Cemetery.
