Obituary of Douglas Forbes Bremner
Douglas “Scotty” Bremner passed away peacefully at the Bethany Care Centre in Calgary at the age of 91. Douglas was born and raised in Lumsden, Scotland but considered Canada his home for most of his adult life. As a young man, he joined the British Navy before the Second World War and in that occupation saw many distant parts of the world including Hong Kong and India. During the War Douglas volunteered for duty on British submarines and considered himself fortunate to have survived those years as many of his friends did not. He was a physically fit young man and was particularly proud of his accomplishments as a boxer. After the War, Douglas emigrated to Canada where he worked in a variety of trades. In his retirement, Douglas was happiest when hiking in the Rocky Mountains of Banff and documenting his life experiences through photographs. Although circumstances led Douglas to be distanced from his family, he often spoke fondly of his three daughters Margaret, Irene and Allison, and two sons, Sydney and Ronald. He will be remembered as a unique individual who made a memorable impression on those he encountered through his travels. A Private Service will be held at a later date, in the mountains that Douglas loved so much.
In living memory of Scotty Bremner, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Eastside Memorial Chapel, 5388 MEMORIAL DRIVE N.E. Telephone: (403) 248-8585.
