Obituary
Obituary of Douglas E. Buchan
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Doug, our pillar of strength, at the age of 64 years.
The oldest of four siblings, Doug was born in Calgary and raised in Cold Lake, Alberta. Doug followed his father into the trucking industry and worked four decades moving families throughout North America, an event characterized as one of the most traumatic in people’s lives. At the time of his retirement last year due to his declining health, Doug was AMJ Campbell Van Lines’ (Atlas) longest tenured owner-operator. Doug was also their most requested mover and enjoyed repeat relationships that spanned decades. Doug consistently swept the top honours in his field and was recently awarded the third diamond in a ring reflecting his many years of safe driving in the United States. Doug’s loyalty and passion for helping people in need assisted many through difficult periods in their lives from both a personal and professional perspective. Doug was a passionate Flames and Stampeders fan. He was also a longstanding member of the Royal Canadian Legion 264 Branch. In addition, Doug sponsored many children over the years through World Vision. He will be sadly missed by his many friends and extended family.
Doug is survived by his siblings, Don Buchan (Darlene) of St. Catharine’s ON, Jacky Chirico of Edmonton, AB, Shirley Denny (Lee) of Fort McMurray, AB and his many nieces and nephews (and their children). He was predeceased by his parents, Sadie and Clarence Buchan of Cold Lake.
A celebration of Doug’s life, and fittingly, a SuperBowl party, will be held at the Kensington Legion (1910 Kensington Road NW) on Sunday, February 1, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
