KELLY – Gordon Fred
January 28, 1936 – January 24, 2009
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Kelly on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the Foothills Medical Centre. Born in Lac La Biche, AB (on a day his Mother claimed to be -60F), Gordon spent his youth in McLennan, AB completed his education with the Franciscan’s at St. Anthony’s College in Edmonton. At a young age, he worked with the Northern Alberta Railway as a “rodman” with the engineering department in the vicinity of the (then) small town of Fort McMurray. After completing this adventure, he began his long career in broadcasting, beginning in Peace River. He continued his career in Red Deer where he met Shirley, his “bride” of over fifty one years. He later moved to Calgary to embark upon a long and meaningful career with CFCN/CTV over the span of fifty years, where he made many wonderful treasured friends. During this time, he was presented with wonderful experiences allowing him to enjoy his passion for travel, to such far off places as India, across United States and Canada, capturing wonderful human interest stories which he was so proud of. This wanderlust would continue throughout his retirement adding Europe, British Isles, Mexico, North Africa and China to his many adventures. Gordon retired in 2002 and through his retirement, he was able to indulge in his many hobbies which include his passion and gift to transform piles of rust into precision built antique cars.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife Shirley, with whom he cherished every moment together, along with his three children, Christine, Greg (Janice), Karen (Wade); his three beloved grandchildren, Glenn, Graeme and Riah Jane. He will also be greatly missed by his much loved sister Joan (Victor); their children Marc (Wanda), Michel (Gillian), Nicole (Lorne) Stephen, and their children.
