Roelfina Kaspers

Obituary of Roelfina Kaspers

Roelfina Kaspers, known to most as Fina, or “Oma”, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 87 years. She was born in Groningen, Netherlands, November 23, 1921, the third of eight children. In 1957, she immigrated to Canada with her husband, Martin Kaspers, and three children. Fina and Martin worked hard to build a home and successful business (Foothills Decorating). She was rewarded with her fourth child and was a friend to all her neighbours. She was a feisty, vibrant lady who was passionate about her flower and vegetable gardens. When gardening became too difficult, she kept busy walking for exercise, playing bridge with her church group, attending many family functions and laughing over a game of tile rummy with her good friends. Oma loved to be surrounded by her family, especially the children, who had a special place in her heart. She thought of others before herself, and was always willing to help her family and friends. Fina was predeceased by her husband Martin; her parents, Geertruida and Jan; brothers, Henk, Gerrit and Roelf; her sisters, Meiske and Renske. She will be remembered and greatly missed by her four children, Trisha, Martin (Cynthia), Tilly (Clay), and Ingrid (Richard); her eight grandchildren, Andrea, Danelle, Marty, Joel, Nikki, Matthew, Kristofer and Zoe; her brother Cees; her sisters Martje and Diny; two sisters-in-law; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends in Canada, Holland and France. A Celebration of Life will be held at Parkdale United Church (2919 – 8th Avenue N.W.) on Monday, December 8, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
