Obituary
Obituary of Ian Francis Hamilton Scott
Ian slipped away peacefully at home in Calgary on Saturday, October 25, 2008, surrounded by the ones he loved, at the age of 58 years.
Ian grew up in Hamilton and Ancaster, Ontario. He obtained a Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Western Ontario in 1977 and pursued a career in the Oil and Gas industry, initially with Trans Canada Pipelines in Toronto and later with Dome Petroleum, the Canadian Petroleum Association and the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers in Calgary. His kindness, wisdom, passion for the Arctic, and genuine concern for the well being of northern people touched the hearts and lives of many. Ian was a man who put his family first. He was a loving partner to Janet for thirty-one years. He lit up whenever speaking of his children, grandchildren, or his loyal canine companions. His friends described Ian as a gifted photographer, gardener, cook and prankster. He loved to be out in nature soaking in the wonders of God’s creation. He found a spiritual home in the communities of L’Arche Calgary and St. Martin’s Anglican Church. Ian courageously faced health challenges throughout his short life. He and his family want to thank the family of a young man who anonymously donated a kidney to Ian twenty- one years ago. This priceless gift allowed him to live life to the fullest. Heartfelt thanks also go the devoted team members of the Southern Alberta Renal Transplant Program, Units 27 and 37 of the Foothills Hospital, Palliative Care Program, Home Care Program and Nurse Next Door agency.
Ian will be forever cherished by his wife and soul mate, Janet; their children Joan Rodney (Kempton), Calum Scott (Nathalie) and Michaela Scott; his brother Peter Scott of Kelowna; sisters, Rosemary Vezina (Maurice) of Mississauga and Martha Law (Warren) of Waterloo, as well as a large extended family. He will be remembered as a beloved ‘Papa’ to his grandchildren, Jovanna, Janene, Jenica and Jonathon Rodney. Ian was predeceased by his loving parents, Frank and Sheila Scott; his beloved Aunt Catherine MacIver; and his sweet nephew Matthew Vezina.
A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Church on Elbow Park (3602 – 8th Street SW, Calgary) on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at 3:00 pm.
