Obituary of John Rawlinson

RAWLINSON – John Illtyd January 7, 1923 – October 19, 2008 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of John I. Rawlinson of Calgary, who passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2008 at the age of 85 years. John was a flying instructor in the RCAF, a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, and a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries. His career included time at George A. Touche, California Standard, Triad Oil, and BP Exploration. Since retirement, John has been an active member of TARA (Talisman Retiree’s Association). He served on many committees of the ICAA and CICA and was president of the ICAA from 1967-1968. He was involved in the Rotary Club of Cranbrook, the Kiwanis Club of Calgary and helped form the Better Business Bureau of Calgary. He was president of the Petroleum Accountants Society of Western Canada and served on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Calgary. He was extensively involved in his Church, a founding parishioner, member of St. James choir and chairmen of the parish council. John was a trustee of the Calgary Separate School Board, president of the Calysmen Club, founding president of Sacred Heart Home and School, member of the diocesan mission council, treasurer on the Board of Management of the Providence Creche Society and president of the Calgary Chapter of the Canadian Council of Christians and Jews. John is survived by his three children, Rosalind (Sr. Mary Rose FCJ), Pamela (Claude LeVallée) and Margaret (Pierre Boulanger); his four grandchildren, Jean-Charles (Nathalie), Charlène, Jeanne (Jean) and Annie-Claude (Jonathan); his five great-grandchildren, Samuel, Sean, Emma, Luca, and James; two sisters-in-law, Rosalind McWilliams in northern Ireland and Florence Fitzpatrick in Regina; brother-in-law James (Sydney) Williams in Medicine Hat; niece Joan (Malachy McGreevy), her siblings, children and grandchildren, nephews Pat Fitzpatrick, David and Dan Williams and their families. John was predeceased by his beloved wife Joan, in November 2004. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at St. James’ Catholic Church (5504 – 20th Street S.W.) on Friday, October 24, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. James’ Catholic Church (5504 – 20th Street S.W.) on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 11:00 am.
