Obituary of Gordon Reid

REID – Gordon John May 12, 1934 – January 5, 2008 Gordon Reid of Calgary passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at the age of 73 years. Gordon was born in Vancouver, BC but lived most of his life in Cornwall, ON before retiring to Calgary in 1996. He joined the Royal Canadian Airforce in 1954 and served for three years. Gordon had many interesting careers throughout his life. He was an aircraft mechanic in Montreal, where he married his wife Christine, drove chemical tankers in Ontario, served with the OPP Auxiliary Police, worked in the mental health industry both in Ontario and Calgary and was a certified drug and alcohol counsellor. Gordon was also very involved in charity work, especially Alzheimer’s and mental health. He was a member of the Shriner’s and the Royal Canadian Legion. Gordon just received his 40 year pin with the Royal Canadian Airforce. He was an avid photographer, loved the outdoors and music, especially Tennessee Ernie Ford. Gordon is survived by his daughter Sandra Quesnel of Alexandria, ON; two sons, Gary and Wayne Reid, both of Cornwall, ON; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his sister Myrtle (Glen) Read of Calgary and life time friends, Bob and Gerry MacDonald. He will also be remembered as an uncle, great uncle and great-great uncle. Gordon was predeceased by his wife Christine and parents, Jack and Emma Reid. At Gordon’s request, there will be no funeral service.
