Obituary of Amelia Geronazzo

Amelia Geronazzo (nee Fabbrici) born in 1940 to Albino — an independent ironsmith and his wife, Elena — in Canossa, Reggio Emilia, Italy passed away on Sunday December 30th following a two week internment at the Foothills Hospital after suffering a stroke. Always an adventurous, studious and intelligent young woman she went to work in Genoa in the late 1960s, where she met and fell in love with Antonio Geronazzo. In the winter of 1972 she received a call from Canada asking her to venture on a new life with Antonio where she knew neither the language nor the customs. They were married in Calgary on December 16th, 1973. Always eager to learn and grow, Amelia was a true inspiration to her family as she studied English at the University of Calgary and then obtained a specialized teaching degree so she could work at the daycare facility close to her home. An amazing chef-du-cuisine in the kitchen, Amelia was known to spend days preparing sumptuous meals of home-made pasta, wild venison and other delicacies. Amelia’s cuisine and company will surely be missed by all who were privileged to know her. She is survived in Calgary by her husband Antonio Geronazzo their children Bernadette, Marina & George as well as her grand-daughter Gabriela. Her relatives in Italy include her sister Anna Felici, her brother Paolo Fabbrici, and her niece Elena & nephew Luigi Felici. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 10:00a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
