Obituary of Anthony Philip Sykes Backfat

Anthony Backfat was born in Calgary, Alberta on April 25, 1972 and was called home to the Lord on October 31, 2007 at the age of 35 years. Anthony is survived by his wife Gertrude OldWoman; children Anthony Jr., Antoinette, Jeanelle, Angelica and Justice; loving mother Elsie Backfat; stepmother-Florence Powderface; brothers Andrew (Tanya), Everette (Rosella), Fred (Koko) Powderface; sisters Minerva, Simonne, Candace, Gisele (Cassius) Smith and Corleigh Belton; nephews Drew & Devon; nieces Lyrical and Tasia; uncles Ronald (Linda), Clifton (Debbie), Ellie Sr. (Delia), Rex (Marlene); aunts Bernice (Edward) Wolfchild, Julia, Esther Simon, Marie Blackrider, Betty (Ron) Hewton, Christine Dixon, Romona Wildman and grandchildren Jennifer and Gaylon TwoYoungMan; as well as numerous relatives. Anthony was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Jean and Philip Backfat Sr.; paternal grandparents Harrison and Becky Powderface; brother Merrill Beaver; uncles Homer, Philip Jr., Don Simon, Sam Powderface; aunts Katie, Phyllis, Aldina Crowchild, Sue Bearspaw, Esther and Verna Wesley; nephew Cassius Braxton Smith Jr. Anthony was close to many of his relatives and the family apologizes for anyone not mentioned. Wake Services will be held at the residence of Mary Sanderson (Siksika Nation, AB) on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Gordon YellowFly Memorial Arbour (Siksika Nation, AB) on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Cannon Stockton Cemetery. Following the graveside service relatives and friends are invited to join the family at the Gordon YellowFly Memorial Arbour. The family would like to thank all the I.C.U. nurses and physicians at the Peter Lougheed Centre for the care they provided to Anthony.
