Obituary of Alfredo Piro

It is with great sadness that the family of Alfredo Piro announces the passing of their dear husband, father and grandfather. Alfredo passed away peacefully with his loving wife and family by his side at the Foothills Hospital at the age of 82. Alfredo was born in Aprigliano, Cosenza, Italy and was the fifth of seven children of Alfonzo and Teresa Piro. In search of a better life, he immigrated to Grand Forks, British Columbia in 1958 where he worked in the bush and at the Grand Forks Sawmill. In 1961 he married his loving wife Maria and was a devoted husband for forty-six years. Still in search of a better life for his family, Alfredo moved to Windsor, Ontario in 1966 where he worked in the construction of bridges with the Canadian Bridge Company. He then moved to Calgary in 1970 where he and his family settled. Upon moving to Calgary, Alfredo worked for the City of Calgary in the Water Works Division and later transferred to the Calgary General Hospital where he worked as a kitchen attendant until his retirement. Alfredo enjoyed gardening and any activity that involved the outdoors. Alfredo was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. His wife, children and grandchildren were always his first priority and his greatest joy was to see his children and grandchildren every Sunday. He will be deeply missed by his family and the place he held in their hearts and in their lives can not be replaced. He will be forever remembered. Alfredo leaves behind his loving wife Maria and his daughters Theresa and Gianna (Salvatore Tedesco) and two grandchildren, Joshua and Sarah. He was predeceased by his siblings: Maria (Italy), Esvelia (Grand Forks), Luigina (Italy), Oscar (Grand Forks), Rita (Italy), and Angelo (Italy).
