Obituary of John Jack Mahony
After a brave battle with cancer, John Mahony Jr. passed away in Calgary on Thursday, July 26 at the age of 51, surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his parents, John and Margaret Mahony; five siblings, Mary (Jeff), Mike (Lorna), Jim, Maureen (Trent) and Dennis (Zoe); nephews, Alexander, Andrew, Liam, Conrad and John; nieces, Kenna, Kianna, Michaela, Shannon and Lauren; Aunts Maureen (Montgomery) and Eileen (Christopherson); and Uncle Les (Spalding).
Jack had a life-long fascination with all things mechanical, and a gift for fixing them. He earned his certificate as an Appliance Technician at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, ran his own appliance service business and in recent years, worked with the Home Depot. He also served his community through volunteer work and as a member of the Knights of Columbus.
We are profoundly saddened at Jack’s passing but comforted that he is at last enjoying his eternal reward. The family extends a special thanks to the doctors, nurses and caregivers of Unit 47, Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Palliative Home Care and the Rosedale Hospice, whose professionalism, sensitivity and compassion was inspiring, and who provided a loving environment for Jack in his last weeks.
Prayers will be held at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (Corner of Northmount Drive & Northland Drive N.W.) on Monday, July 30, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
