Luisa Rossi

Obituary of Luisa Rossi

After a long and difficult battle with Alzheimer’s, Luisa Rossi took the hand of her beloved Antonio and stepped into eternal life. Together, joined in heart and having shed their tired earthly bodies, they can begin again in the better world above. She was deeply loved and although she will be greatly missed, we all knew that Dad was impatiently waiting for her. Mom passed away peacefully, her loving family surrounding her, on Monday, March 12, 2007 at the age of 90 years at the George Boyack Care West Center. Luisa was born on December 24, 1916 in San Leonardo, Ortona, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1955 with her three youngest children, Ada, Teorino and Giselle to join her husband and two oldest children, Maria and Domenico. In 1956 she left Fernie and moved to Calgary. Luisa’s two passions were shopping and cooking. Almost every day she found her way to the Bay, Sears or one of Calgary’s many shopping centers. Purchases were not always made, she just needed to shop. She enjoyed cooking, trying out new recipes and then sharing the results. Luisa loved going to parties, dances and other celebrations with her family and friends. After Antonio retired they traveled several times to Italy, Las Vegas and Disneyland. Luisa leaves behind her five children, Maria (Cirillo) Giuriato, Domenico (Ellen) Rossi, Ada (Armando) Angelozzi, Teorino (Heather) Rossi and Giselle (Reg) Gerlitz; grandchildren, Silvana (Jon) Dick, Dina (Dave) Detta, Marlies (Brett) Allen, Silvia (David) Nunez, Dario (Nicole) Rossi, Renato (Lena) Angelozzi, Linda (Tony) Izzo, Danielle Gerlitz, Nicole Gerlitz (her fiancé Dave) and Mark Rossi. Luisa also leaves behind fourteen great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends in Italy, New York, British Columbia and Calgary. She was predeceased by her husband Antonio in 2004, her granddaughter Ida Giuriato in 1978 and her brother Eugenio in 1971. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Thursday, March 15, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E.) on Friday, March 16, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Mausoleum. The family would like to thank the staff at the George Boyack Care West Center, especially Penny and Rose, and all the other angels who made Luisa’s life better while in their care.
