Obituary of Agnes Middleton

Agnes, beloved daughter of Mabel and Harry McCutcheon, passed away peacefully on December 31 with her family at her side. She will always be remembered by her loving husband and best friend Norman, children Patricia and husband Alan, Ronald and his wife Carole, grandchildren Brian and his wife Pricilla, Suzanne, Joanna and her husband Braydon, and great grandchildren Erika, Denise, Cole and Darcy. She will be sadly missed by sisters and brothers Lillian, Vivian, Barbara, Bernice, Bill and his wife Maureen, Phillip and his wife Sheila, brother in-law Jack, sisters in-law Kay, Shirley and Rene, beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and treasured friends. She was predeceased by her brother Harry. Agnes had a deep love of this world and a sincere desire to make it better. She had a passion for life. She delighted in the natural world, particularly in the plants and birds of the prairies she came to know as a child and her cherished blue Canadian Rockies. She sang and played the piano and had a wide ranging love of music. You would be equally likely to catch her singing a popular song from her youth or listening to a Mozart piano concerto. Her greatest passion though was people, starting with those closest to her. She was a proud mother who took great pleasure from the accomplishments of her children and who encouraged them to be the best they could at what they wanted to be. This pride and love grew to encompass her children’s spouses, her grand children and great grand children. She also cared deeply for her extended family and friends, and their happiness. She enjoyed socializing and was a great hostess, ensuring that all felt welcome. Her interest in politics was a natural outgrowth of her interest in people. Her politics were very personal. Justice, equal opportunity, access to medical care and all those issues that concerned her had human faces. When she supported a candidate or party, or when she chose to run for office herself, it was purely with the intention of making a difference. And she did. Her community is a better place thanks to her efforts. Those who knew and loved her are better people for having been touched by her life. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Saturday January 13, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Carolynne Bouey Shank of St. David’s United Church, Presider.
