Obituary of Maddalena LAVORATO

December 26, 1927 – Cavallerizzo Cerzeto, Italy May 31, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta We wish to announce the passing of the heart of our family, Maddalena Lavorato, on Friday, May 31, 2019 at the Rockyview General Hospital surrounded by her family. Maddalena was born in Cavallerizzo Cerzeto, Italy. She arrived in Calgary with her late husband Francesco and their children on November 6, 1959 in the hopes of creating a new home and a better life. Many in the Italian Community will remember Maddalena who, along with Francesco, owned and operated Italian Grocery and Meat Market from the 1960’s until the 1980’s. Her greatest passions were cooking and feeding anyone and everyone who entered her home, especially her family. She loved sewing and knitting; and, of course, her vegetable garden. Maddalena is survived by her son Nickolas Lavorato; daughter Mirella (Bruno) Milos; grandchildren, Maddalena (Chris) Fry, Francesco (Lucia) Lavorato, Claudia (John) Parcells, Antonio and Davide Milos; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Oliver Fry, and Nicolas and Alessandro Lavorato; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins here and in Italy. She was predeceased by her husband Francesco; her parents, Giovanni and Costanza; her brothers, Guiseppe and Giorgio; and her sister Rosaria. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY () on Friday, June 7, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church () on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Mausoleum.
