Obituary of Alvin Bothner

Alvin was a son of a true prairie pioneer. Born in a sod shack near what is now the village of Beechy, Sask. His entire family worked very hard to build a successful farm before, during and after the great depression. After attending the typical one room school houses of the day, he took a provincial government correspondence training course for three years. He then went on to the Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute in Outlook, Sask. Continuing his education, he advanced to Normal School in Saskatoon where upon graduation, he returned to teach in those same one roomed school houses. While teaching in rural Sask, he met his future wife, Kathleen Sara Munro. In 1942, he was called into military service with the Canadian Armed Forces. After a brief courtship, he married his sweet bride and began his military service. While stationed mainly at Camp Borden, Ontario, Alvin and Kathleen had three loving sons. In 1964, he received his final military posting to Calgary and the family moved West. Once in Calgary, he began teaching again and then became a valued commissioner at S.A.I.T. Alvin was predeceased by his loving wife, Kathleen and sons Archie and Hugh; brothers Ernest and Lester; and sister Elsie. Alvin loved social activities such as bridge and chess. Alvin was a founding elder of Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church where he served and worshipped for many years. At church, he enjoyed many happy occasions and numerous dear friendships.
