John Michi

Obituary of John Michi

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, John Michi, passed away on the evening of Thursday, March 31, 2005, in the company of his closest loved ones. He had recently celebrated his 71st birthday. John came into this world on March 28, 1934, in a small town, Setschan, in the former Yugoslavia. His experiences in the old country would serve him throughout his life, with a sense of humility and compassion that would become characteristic of the John Michi we knew. He immigrated to Canada in 1956, and shortly thereafter, married and began a family with his wife Minke; together they were blessed with two children, David in 1958 and Janine in 1962. After the passing of his young wife in 1965, however, John began to move around the country in search of work to support his children. In 1982, while working at the Calgary Brewery, John met Patricia Evans, and soon after they were wed. In 1983, John and Pat were blessed with a son, James. Together they lived and loved at their home in North Calgary, until his passing. John was a committed outdoorsman, a member of the Rocky Mountain Ramblers, and an amateur photographer. He loved music, cinema, wine making, bird watching, gardening, and travelling. Never intimidated by technology, John became increasingly involved in many home-grown computer projects, and continued to maintain correspondences with old friends and family. In addition to his wife Pat, and his children David (Shirley), Janine (Jeff) and James, John is survived by his brother Harry (Traude), his sister Anna Knoblich, and his grandchildren, Jason (Kate), Michael, Kari (Matt), Sean, Darrin, Connor, and Christopher. All of us will miss him profoundly. “I have learned that the richest reward for a human being is to find fulfillment and love. I have found both within my family and friends.” There will be an opportunity to visit with the family in the Reception Room at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
