Obituary
Obituary of William Clinton Dennis
Bill Dennis, much-loved son of Frances and William Dennis, and dear brother of Anita, died suddenly in Calgary from a heart attack after hip surgery, following a fall on the ice on February 4, 2005 at the age of 53 years.
A long-serving employee of Foremost Industries, Bill was recently honoured for more than twenty-five years with the company. He loved his job and wanted to get back to it as soon as possible. Although his parents were Canadian, Bill was born and educated in England. His first part-time job was as a Photofinish Operator at London’s White City. He began full time employment at Simpson’s, Piccadilly in 1970.
Three years later Bill came to Canada and started his career with Mannix Ltd. in Wabush, Quebec, a remote northern outpost close to Labrador City. He later moved to Hewitt Equipment in Montreal. In January 1977 he came to Calgary to join Seismic Drills International as Partsman and Purchasing Agent. When this company merged with Foremost Industries in 1986 he became Production Partsman with a range of duties including his favourite, the precision accuracy of punching track belts for the new rigs coming off the assembly line. His head was full of numbers and he was a walking inventory of the parts used in Foremost’s complicated array of all-terrain vehicles and equipment for the oil industry.
Bill was a charismatic character who made friends easily and loved to joke and sing in Karaoke contests. He never married but was always close to his sister. They were planning a cruise in a few weeks time, where he would indulge in his love of dressing up in formal attire borrowed from his father, with whom he also shared a passion for old musicals.
