Obituary of Antonio Oliverio
Antonio Oliverio, beloved husband of Assunta Civitarese of Calgary, passed away at the Sarcee Hospice on Thursday, January 27, 2005 at the age of 79 years.
Antonio was born on December 10 1925 in San Giovanni in Fiore, Italia and immigrated to Canada in 1970. Antonio was a hard worker, who at the young age of eight began a variety of occupations; which included being a shepherd, a lumber jack, and a construction laborer. He was a great gardener, tending his own vineyard in Italy and continuing with his garden in Calgary. Besides gardening he loved winemaking and fishing. Antonio is survived by two daughters and two sons in-law, Maria and Umberto Migliaccio, Lisa and Adriano Samori; two sons and two daughters-in-law, John and Lisa Oliverio, Joseph and Serafina Oliverio; and two stepsons and daughter, Florenzo and Cheryl Civitarese, and Giancarlo Civitarese all of Calgary; fifteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Rosa Iaconis Spina Oliverio and Lucia (Francesco) Straface of San Giovanni in Fiore, Italia. He was predeceased by his first love Caterina in 1982, (to whom he was married for 32 years), his mother Maria, his father Giovanni, a brother Salvatore, and a grandson Giuliano.
Those wishing to pay their respects “at the viewing” may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Monday, January 31, 2005 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E.) on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Emanuel Buttigieg, Presider. Graveside Service to follow in St. Joseph’s Section at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
