Obituary of Charles Henry Flynn

Charles Henry Flynn of Calgary passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2005 at the age of 73 years. Charles was born on July 3, 1931 in Calgary. He was the eldest son of Elsie and Charles Flynn Sr. During Charlie’s diverse working life, he worked as a Radio Tower Installer for Shell in the Kootnay Interior, a Telecommunications Expert for Federal Electric on the Dewline in the High Arctic and as an Electrician and Computer Technician at TransAlta until his retirement in 1986. In the other lives he lived, he was an adoring husband, loving companion, treasured father, grandfather/mentor, adventurer, world traveler, author, patron of the arts, fine arts collector, avid skier and hiker, white water canoeist, mountaineer, voracious reader, book collector, out-of-the-box thinker, quick wit who loved to tease and have people laugh, and finally a great, great story teller. Charles willingly gave of himself through his wealth of knowledge to family, friends and community. He was a volunteer Teacher at the Alexandra Writing Centre and acting President for two years. Charles also volunteered at Calgary Pathways and the 1988 Olympics Ski Timing Committee at Nakiska. Our Dad was dearly loved and will always be in our hearts. Besides his loving companion Shirley Black, Charles is survived by his two daughters and their spouses Deborah Flynn and Richard Wallace of Calgary and Diana and Ed Dwyer of Winnipeg, MB. He is also survived by his four grandchildren Jason McMillan, and Kelly, Shawna, and Michael Dwyer; as well as his brother and sister-in-law Alan and Helen Flynn and their children Michael, Patrick, Timothy and Brian and his great-aunt Marj Herron.
