Just before going on-line to search for Joel, I had a sudden feeling of anxiety and regret. I thought, what if I have been out of touch for too many years? What if he is no longer in Calgary or has given up the fight. What if he worked himself into an early grave? Joel was my dear friend throughout law school, together with Rod Hinton and Brenda Niskala. We smoked and drank coffee in class, cracked jokes and called ourselves the fearless foursome. I retired from law due to burn out and very poor health. I just recently decided to give it another try and plan to relocate to Calgary. I will visit Joel’s resting place within the next year. I am so sorry he has passed away. Tonight I will light a candle and write a prayer…I still put much down on paper in black and white.
