Obituary of Pier Luigi Siccardi
Pier Luigi Siccardi, beloved husband of Maria of Calgary, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at the age of 63 years.
Pier was born in Torino, Italy. After moving to Canada in 1967, he taught himself English and shortly after became a member of the International Biological Program, sponsored by the United Nations. During his time as a Faculty Member of the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, he published fifty-three scientific papers and two books on genetics and the prairies’ ecosystem. After a lengthy career, which encompassed work in the areas of multiculturalism, seniors’ and immigrant issues, Pier became an Educator with the Bearspaw First Nation in Morley, AB. In addition, he has been an active member of the Alberta Soccer Association for the past nineteen years. He has also volunteered extensively and is a recipient of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal for his work in multiculturalism and the Louise Dean Award for his volunteer work. Pier is also an emeritus member of the Consular Corps of Calgary. He was a renowned Gourmand and Winemaker. Besides his loving wife, Pier is survived by two step-daughters, Cristy Watson and her husband Alan Wilson, Elisa Watson and her partner Ann Zee; step-grandson Sean Wilson; godson Matthew Holst; godfather Giuseppe Midali; and many extended family members in the United States and Italy.
