Obituary of George Bernard Wiens
George Bernard Wiens, beloved husband of Thelma Wiens of Calgary, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and sons on Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at the age of 88 years.
George’s life was a testament to the strong values nurtured and instilled through his family and the Mennonite Church in his rural Saskatchewan home. He was a teacher in church schools in northern Saskatchewan, a partner with Touche Ross for over thirty years and an active member of the Scarboro United Church congregation for over fifty years. George’s lifelong passion for music included membership in the Scarboro Church Choir and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra Choir. George’s commitment to giving back to the community led to two terms with Canadian Executive Services Overseas as well as numerous other community activities, always together with his lifetime partner, Thelma.
George will be remembered by his loving wife Thelma; his sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Carol of Vancouver, Doug and Marilyn of Edmonton, and Ken and Bev of Calgary; his grandchildren, Lisa, Paul, Susan, Vlasta Wiktorski, Christopher, Stephen, and Jennifer; and great-grandson Steven Wiktorski IV. George is also survived by his brother Abe Wiens and his sister Helen Wiens.
Services will be held at Scarboro United Church (134 Scarboro Avenue S.W.) on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. with the Very Rev. Bill Phipps officiating.
