Obituary of Derek Nicholas Walker
Derek Nicholas Walker was born October 25, 1924 in Cheshire, England and died peacefully with his family at his side on Sunday evening, October 10, 2004.
He is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Shirley; his sons, Frank and Mark, daughter-in-law Terry, and his granddaughter, Danielle.
Derek attended Rugby School until 1942 and after a year at Peterhouse, Cambridge University joined the British Royal Navy and served during WWII attaining the rank of Lieutenant. From 1947 – 1953 he worked in London, and earned his Chartered Accountant designation from The Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales. Derek immigrated to Canada in 1952 where he worked with Clarkson Gordon in Toronto and Calgary. Derek worked in the earlier days of the Calgary oil patch with Canadian Export Gas & Oil, which later became Placer CEGO, until his retirement in 1988. In 2002, he was recognized by the Alberta Institute of Chartered Accountants for his 50 years as a C.A.. In his retirement, Derek and Shirley enjoyed Aprils in Victoria and holidays in Maui. He enjoyed woodworking in his workshop at home, creating beautiful pieces of art. His priority was spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed camping, fishing, reading, cryptic crosswords, bridge and entertaining friends at home.
Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Thursday, October 14, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the War Amputations of Canada, 1068 Berkley Drive N.W., Calgary, AB T3K 1E1 Telephone: (403) 274-6870. The family acknowledges the loving care Derek received from the nurses of Unit 58 of the Rocky View Hospital and the Home Care Palliative Team.
