Obituary of Isabel Gataiant

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Isabel Gataiant of Calgary at the Foothills Medical Centre on Friday, September 3, 2004 in her 88th year. Isabel was born in Calgary and was raised in Vulcan. She later lived in the Drumheller area before moving to Calgary fifty-five years ago. She has always been active in her community with her involvement in CGIT, Cubs and Scouts and as a founding member of Renfrew United Church. She was also a long time employee of Eaton’s. Her love of travel took her across Canada and beyond to the British Isles, continental Europe, New Zealand, Australia, and many points in the United States and the Caribbean. She was active in community affairs, helping to establish the Greater Forest Lawn Senior Citizen Society where she was honoured with a lifetime membership after having served as Director and President for several years. Over the years she participated in softball, hockey, bowling, and lawn bowling and especially loved to go fishing. With her avid interest in music she danced, square danced, sang in choirs, played in bands, and shared her talent with others entertaining in lodges, senior’s residences and hospitals as well as at community events. This remarkable woman was a loving, kind, caring daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and good neighbour to all who knew her. Her love of gardening made her home a place of beauty which she proudly shared with her community.
