Obituary of Gale Beaumont

On July 26, Gale Beaumont, wife of Henry Beaumont, died of a heart attack after golfing with dear friends. Gale was born in Montreal and moved to Napanee, Ontario at the age of twelve where her father, David Stuart Roffey, joined her uncle, Jack McPherson in resurrecting the Gibbard Furniture Factory. She attended the Ontario College of Art and in 1953, she married Henry Beaumont and moved to Edmonton while Henry completed his Law degree. They then moved to Calgary where the family has lived since, most of that time on the banks of her beloved Elbow River. Gale is survived by her husband, Henry and five children; Norah and her husband Dr. Williard Johnston and their two children, Lise and Hugh of Vancouver, British Columbia, Tracy Beaumont and her husband Robert Lehodey and their four children, Sean, Breanne, Marc, and Blake, of Calgary, Josh Beaumont and his wife Michele (nee Hammond) and their three children, Helen and twin girls, Deirdre and Adrienne, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Sean Beaumont of Calgary, Monique Beaumont and her husband, Dean Prodan and their daughter Norah, of Calgary; older brother, William and his wife Rosemary of Napanee, Ontario (where Bill continues his involvement with Gibbard Furniture); and her sister-in-law Bea Roffey of Cobourg, Ontario;. Gale was predeceased by her parents, Nora and David Roffey, of Napanee; and her younger brother, David Roffey. Gale devoted her life to creating a home for her family, grandchildren and friends; a home that was both chaotic and full of creativity, while at the same time a refuge of graciousness. Apart from her family and husband to whom she devoted her life, she loved her garden and flowers, skiing, golfing, and playing bridge. Above all she loved to ride horses and once a year for over twenty years she journeyed off on a trail ride into the Rocky Mountains with some of her closest friends. She served her church and the community well, being on the Altar Guild of Christ Church in Elbow Park for many years and a long time supporter of the Flowers of Hope for whom she regularly helped raise money for cancer research. She leaves an empty spot in the lives of many that will never be filled. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McInnis & Holloway’s Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Monday, August 2, 2004 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M.
