Joseph Walla Jr. of Calgary passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 19, 2004 at the age of 86 years. Joe was born on July 5, 1918 in Linwood, NE. Joe graduated from the University of Nebraska in Geology and served in the US Marine Corps during WWII. He began his career in Texas and spent ten years in Venezuela with Creole Petroleum Company before moving to Calgary in 1957 with his wife, Grace and daughters Susan and Mary Jo. During his long career, he held executive positions with Northern Natural Gas, Mobil Oil Canada, Hamilton Brothers Oil and Gas, and Petro-Canada. Joe was well known in the Canadian oil patch and a long-time member of the Calgary Petroleum Club. We will remember his wonderful stories about growing up in small-town America, his career in Texas, South America and Canada, and hunting and fishing with his many friends. Joe is survived by his wife, Grace; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Blair Smith and Mary Jo and Joseph Dallaire; his sister Ramona Walla; and aunt Tony Mashek, both of Omaha, NE. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 – 14th Street S.W.) on Thursday, July 22, 2004 at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 – 14th Street S.W.) on Friday, July 23, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. with the Rev. Edmundo Vargas, Presider.
