Obituary of Gordon Henry Powis
Gordon Powis, beloved father and grandfather of Calgary and formerly of Nelson, BC, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on Saturday, May 22, 2004 at the age of 78 years.
Gordon was born on December 7, 1925, in Prince Albert, SK. He attended the University of Saskatchewan and graduated from there with his Bachelor of Commerce Degree. He married Dolores Fay Billings in Saskatchewan, and was in the investment business there, until moving to Calgary in 1970. In Calgary, Gordon eventually became Chairman of the Alberta Stock Exchange, and retired in his mid-fifties from Richardson Greenshields Security. He then moved to Nelson, BC in 1982, where he resided until returning to Calgary in January, 2004. Gordon was an avid Rotary Member in Calgary and Nelson, and also enjoyed gardening as well as being a great hockey fan.
Gordon is survived by his family, Marilyn and Marvin Smith of Colorado, Wendy Turnbull and Rick Belbin of Calgary, Murray and Kelly Powis of Calgary, Barry Powis and Christine Kucher of Edmonton, Kerri and Phil Pugh of Red Deer, and Randy and Brenda Capstick of Barrie, ON; eleven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and his sister Shirley Clarke of Calgary. Gordon was predeceased by his wife Dolores (Dolly) in 1961, a sister Pat, and a brother Phil.
