Obituary of Garth A. Huck

Garth Huck of Calgary passed away at the Carewest Sarcee Hospice on Monday, May 17, 2004 at the age of 58 years. Garth was born on June 11, 1945 in Calgary. He graduated high school from St. Mary’s Boys’ High School in 1964. He received his certification in Drafting Technology from SAIT. He worked in several Pipeline Divisions in the oil patch. In 1982, while working for Foothills Pipeline, he met a young lady who captivated his heart, Edelwina Alonso. Garth and Edelle were married in 1983 and have had twenty-one blissful years and two loving sons, Allan and Nathan. Garth was an accomplished athlete, he was a receiver and safety for his high school football team, and a sprinter for the track and field team. He was a member of the Calgary Track and Field Club where he was extremely competitive and successful runner, as well as a coach to several aspiring athletes. He continued to run even after being diagnosed with cancer in January, 2002. As recently as March 2004 he received the Ironperson Award for completing the Calgary Roadrunners’ Crosscountry Series. Garth was a thoughtful and accepting husband, a supportive and loving father, an extremely generous individual, a steadfast friend, an encouraging coach and a faithful servant of God. He is survived by his wife, Edelle; two sons, Allan and Nathan; sister Barbara (Neil) Neigel; mother-in-law Donatela Alonso; uncles, Tad (Helen) Huck and Lee Huck; aunts, Pauline Smith, Dubbie Huck and Doreen (Joe) Shadlock; as well as numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
