Obituary of Donald Malcolm York
York – Donald Malcolm passed away peacefully at the age of eighty-two on May 9, 2004. He is survived by his three children and their spouses, Randall and Pamela York, Jordan and Carol York and April and Gordon Nottell. He will also be missed by his grandchildren Teresa York, Russell York, Margaret-Ann Doyle, Amber Nottell and Jessica Nottell and his great granddaughter, Kescia Neve Doyle; his sisters-in-law Fern Inglis and Mona Cozart and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by Opal, his beloved wife of fifty-eight years, his parents Henry and Elizabeth, his brothers Harold, Ernest and Neville and his sisters, Marjorie, Muriel, Beatrice and Dorothy. Don was born in Presque Isle, Maine and spent his childhood in Winnipeg. While he was still a young man the family moved to Calgary where he met and married Opal Cozart in 1943. Don served with the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII. He spent the majority of his working years in the farm machinery industry and he was a member of The United Commercial Travelers for 55 years. Don enjoyed singing barbershop harmony with the Stampede City Chorus for many years, and in 1996 was presented with the ‘Barbershopper Of The Year’ award. He was a loving family man, a devoted friend, an avid hobbyist and a gifted gardener. His favorite charities are The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada and the Alberta Lung Association. Don will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Don’s life will be held at St. Giles Presbyterian Church (1102 – 23 Ave. N.W.) in Calgary on Thursday, May 13 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. David B. Vincent, D. Min. officiating. To forward condolences go to www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
