Obituary of Bertha Marion Walker

Bertha Marion Walker (nee Kerstens) of Calgary passed away at the Chinook Care Centre on Sunday, April 4, 2004 at the age of 76 years. Born on April 9, 1927 in Strathmore, AB, Bertha was well known among her family and friends and the patrons of the Chinook Woodward’s restaurant for her wonderful baking, particularly her cookies, muffins and pies. Although her formal education was brief, Bertha was an intelligent and caring person, always willing to learn, whether it be sewing clothes for her children, carpentry, tiling to redo the bathroom or quilting to make her grandchildren a quilt or soft storybook. We will miss her smile greatly. Bertha will be lovingly remembered by her son and daughter-in-law Michael and Sharon, and her daughter Janet, all of Calgary, her daughter Sharon of St. Albert; grandsons, Paul (Karen Boyd) Amy of Edmonton and Justin Amy; granddaughter Cheryl (Jerome) Bourchier; and great-granddaughter Zen Bourchier, all of St. Albert. She is also survived by two sisters, Edith (Norm) Graftaas and Violet Fischer of Calgary; two brothers, John (Mary) Kerstens of NB and Donald (Carole) Kerstens of BC; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bertha was predeceased by her sister Margaret (Denneus) Baxter; brother George Karstens; and her parents Andrew and Lilian Kerstens.
