Obituary of Antonio Coelho Sousa

Antonio (Tony) Coelho Sousa, beloved husband of Maria do Carmo of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre on Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at the age of 72 years. Antonio was born on April 2, 1931 in Fontinhas, Terceira, Azores. He was married to Maria do Carmo on July 26, 1956 and together they immigrated to Canada on November 16, 1966. Antonio and Maria enjoyed a long, fruitful marriage together. They loved to travel, particularly in their motor home and they embarked on an adventurous cruise to Alaska together. Next to his wife, Antonio’s greatest passion was his dog, Sonny. A hard and committed worker, Antonio was employed in the construction industry for twenty-five years with McTavish McKay Ltd. Besides his loving wife, Antonio is remembered by his son Antonio Eulalio Sousa and his companion Jamie Ross of Calgary; his daughter Maria Alice Dolan and her companion Robert GagnÚ of Edmonton; and his grandchildren, Nick Pereira, Danny Sousa, Jason Pereira, Carissa Dolan, and Michael Sousa. He is also survived by his sister Maria and brother-in-law Luis Bulcoa of Calgary, sister Teresa and brother-in-law Manuel Moitoso, sister Fatima and brother-in-law Domingos Mendes of California; and brother Jose and sister-in-law Conceicao Sousa, of Terceira, Azores; and many nieces and nephews. Antonio was predeceased by his parents, Antonio Coelho Sousa and Maria Jesus Meneses as well as his brother Manuel Sousa. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church (4747 – 30th Street S.E.) on Monday, April 5, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. with the Rev. Clauber Pereira Lima, Presider.
