Obituary of Florence Hilda Fleming
Florence Hilda (Flo) Fleming of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre on Sunday, March 28, 2004 at the age of 85 years.
Florence was born on July 17, 1918 in D’Escouse, Cape Breton and lived in many different areas of Nova Scotia. During the war, she was living in Halifax, where she met Dick Fleming an RCAF member from High River, temporarily stationed in Halifax before going overseas. They married, and in 1944 moved to Alberta where they farmed for a few years near Cochrane. They later moved to Calgary where she resided in Bowness for the past fifty years. Flo was an accomplished seamstress and artist as well as a wonderful cook. She was very active in the senior’s bowling league for many years. Flo loved camping, picnics, fishing and was an avid fan of the Calgary Flames. She was happiest when everyone was together for family gatherings and was interested in what everyone was doing. Most of all, she was a wonderful mother and grandmother, who gave of herself completely and unselfishly to us all. Florence is survived by three daughters and their families, Betty and Bill Sneddon and their children Tracy (Ryan) Collyer, Tim Sneddon; Bev Munson and daughters Laura and Cheryl Munson and their father Wayne, all of Calgary; Dixie and Ray Lawson of Airdrie and their children Kellie and Kevin Lawson; Barb’s daughter Betty George of Spruce Grove, AB. She is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law May and Austin MacDougall of Bedford, N.S.; a brother Skip Sangster of Halifax, N.S.; and a very dear sister-in-law Jean Fleming of Calgary; plus numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Dick in 1977 and daughter Barb Shortreed in 2000.
