Obituary of Richard Stephen Dvorkin

Richard Stephan Dvorkin, cherished and beloved husband of Judith, passed away after a valiant battle with melanoma on Saturday, March 20, 2004 at the age of 60 years. Richard was born on June 4, 1943 in Calgary and passed away peacefully at his home in Calgary. He received his early education in Calgary and earned his Business Degree at Ryerson Polytechnic University in Toronto. Richard spent forty years in the scrap metal industry at Calgary Metal. He was the founding President of the Recycling Council of Alberta, serving on the Board of Governors of CARI for many years and was a member of TEC. Richard was also Past President of the I.L. Peretz School at which his children all attended. He loved fishing and camping, motor home trips, and adventures traveling and learning about the world and its people. His hobbies included model railroad building, hot rods, mineralogy, stamp and coin collections, and an exotic mask collection. Each year he took pride in planting and arranging potted plants and tending to the rockery garden. Richard planned to one day build a stream and pond for koi. Above all, Richard was a committed family man – his family was everything. He had a special bond with Judith for nearly forty years, having married on August 2, 1964. He will be with her and his family forever and will be sorely missed. Besides his loving wife, Richard leaves to mourn his three children, Corey (Corri), Tracey (Dave) and Tevy; two precious grandchildren, Eric and Kate Leyland; his mother Miriam; two sisters, Rena and Tisha (Dixon); a brother Gary (Francoise); in-laws, Les and Edna Libin and Marie Moss; sisters-in-law, Sharon Libin, Sandra (George) McLaughlin; and brother-in-law Darrell (Sherill) Moss. He was predeceased by his father Ted Dvorkin in 1997 and father-in-law Charles Moss in 1998. Funeral Services will be held at the Beth Tzedec Synagogue, (1325 Glenmore Trail S.W.) on Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. Graveside Service to follow at the Beth Tzedec Memorial Park (122 Shalom Way S.W.).
